    Viscous fluid damper is a type of energy dissipation and shock absorption device that uses an oil cylinder structure filled with damping medium to drive the flow of internal medium through the reciprocating motion of the piston, generating damping effect and converting kinetic energy into thermal energy. Viscous fluid dampers are mainly suitable for schools, hospitals, sports venues, and high-rise buildings in earthquake and typhoon prone areas.

    A damper is a device that reduces or eliminates vibration by applying a force opposite to the direction of vibration (i.e. damping force). The core principle is to convert vibration energy into thermal energy or other forms of energy, thereby gradually reducing the amplitude of vibration until it stops. Damping force is usually proportional to the speed of motion of the vibration system, and this energy dissipation mechanism is the key to achieving damping effect of dampers. 

 

    Damping technology has been widely used in structural engineering such as buildings and bridges since the 1970s. Dampers play an important role in vibration reduction, improving structural stability, and enhancing acoustic environment through their unique energy dissipation mechanism, and are essential key devices in the engineering field.

Maintenance frequency:
    The maintenance frequency of viscous dampers depends on their usage scenarios and design lifespan. Generally speaking, viscous dampers used in construction should undergo an initial inspection after one year of installation, followed by regular inspections every three, five, ten, and ten years after completion. If encountering disasters such as strong earthquakes, strong winds, fires, etc., timely inspections should be carried out. In addition, if the viscous damper is installed in harsh environmental conditions such as exposure to sunlight, rain, or immersion in water, personnel should be arranged to conduct regular (one year) inspections and maintenance.

Maintenance method:
    The maintenance method of viscous dampers mainly includes the following points:
1. Check if the damping medium leaks.
2. Clean the uncoated areas on the surface of the main body.
3. Regularly apply paint and rust prevention treatment to steel components.
4. Add lubricating grease to the pin shaft connection and clean the dirt in a timely manner.
5. Measure the distance between the center of the damper and record it. If it exceeds the allowable range, it should be corrected in a timely manner.
6. Check if there is any gap between the damper and the building connection.
